10 Powerful Apple Cider Vinegar Cures

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, and so does a daily dose of apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is a type of vinegar made from apples and has a characteristic amber color.

Over the centuries, apple cider vinegar has been used for many purposes: making pickles, killing weeds, cleaning coffee makers, polishing armor, and dressing salads. Apple cider vinegar is also one of the most popular go-to ingredients in your kitchen, offering many natural health benefits.

It is rich in minerals, like potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, and copper, as well as vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C, and E, bioflavonoids, and pectin. Moreover, due to its acetic acid content, apple cider vinegar helps your body absorb essential minerals from the foods you eat.

While the uses for white vinegar are plentiful, apple cider vinegar has arguably even more trusted applications. Its wide-ranging benefits (rivaling the number of uses for tea tree oil and other nifty natural helpers) include everything from curing hiccups to alleviating cold symptoms, and some people have turned to apple cider vinegar to help with health concerns including diabetes, cancer, heart problems, high cholesterol, and weight issues.

Here are 10 powerful apple cider vinegar cures:

1. Eye Health

For eye problems like the pink eye (conjunctivitis) or pterygium, 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar should be added to 1 cup of distilled water. The resulting solution can then be used as eye drops 2-3 times a day until the condition resolves.

2. Sore Throats

As soon as you feel the prickle of a sore throat, employ germ-busting apple cider vinegar to help head off the infection at the pass. Turns out, most germs can't survive in the acidic environment vinegar creates. Just mix 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 1/4 cup warm water and gargle every hour or so.

3. Treats Constipation

Apple cider vinegar contains pectin, a water-soluble fiber that promotes bowel movements. This makes it a great natural treatment for constipation.

Add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water and drink it three times a day. You can add apple or grape juice to the mix to make it more palatable.

4. Ear Health

Apple cider vinegar can be used to treat earaches. Dilute the apple cider vinegar to 50% with distilled water. This solution can be used in the ear 2-3 times a day. If the ear issue is fungal in nature use 1 part apple cider vinegar and 1 part rubbing alcohol. This combination dries out the ear and kills the fungus.

5. Sinus Health

Apple cider vinegar can be used for sinus infections and congestion. It can be added to distilled water and used in a Neti pot (1/2 teaspoon vinegar and 6 ounces of water.) Or you can boil a cup or two of water on the stove. Remove the water from heat and add 1-2 Tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Drape a towel over your head to make a tent and lean over the steaming water. Slowly breathe in the steam, being careful not to burn yourself.

6. Can Treat Acid Reflux and Heartburn

Some of the main causes of acid reflux and heartburn are an imbalanced stomach pH and lack of enzymes and probiotics.  Apple cider vinegar is full of all of these nutrients. Add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to a cup of water and drink it five minutes before meals to relieve acid reflux.

7. Can Heal Poison Ivy

Organic, raw apple cider vinegar contains potassium, which can help reduce swelling and inflammation, improving poison ivy.  Reducing side effects of poison ivy is also one of the apple cider vinegar uses because it can help detox the poison out of your skin, helping poison ivy heal more quickly.

8. Can Kill Fungus on Toes and Skin

The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal compounds in apple cider vinegar make it a great natural remedy for skin and toenail fungus.  Simply rub on the area of fungus two times daily.
