When we buy meat and other produce way ahead of time, they can get spoiled and lose their freshness. Meal prepping requires time and we can’t possibly prep a meal just every time. The best way to prep a meal and keep the ingredients fresh is to prepare them 3-5 days before you consume it. It is much better if you precook it and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to warm up and consume it. By doing this, you’ll utilize fresh ingredients for your meals and your items won’t get spoiled.

2. Not Choosing The Right Recipes For Your Requirement

No matter what your purpose for meal prepping is, you should pick the right recipe that will satisfy your requirements. If you prep your meal, your recipe should be the one that you need. If you want to lose weight, then look for recipes that can help you lose weight. If you need recipes that can help improve your memory, then choose that kind of recipe. If you’re going to meal prep, do it right.

One reason why we do meal prepping incorrectly is because we are too unrealistic and overly ambitious. We often plan our meals that don’t match our needs or our schedules. Plan out realistic foods and meals that you can actually eat. If you can’t eat a certain type of meal or food item, don’t cook it thinking you can force yourself to do it. Meal prepping is a trial and error procedure. You can start small until you figure out what recipe will work for your needs. You can always revise your recipe as you wish.

4. Not Saving Your Recipes

For a meal plan to be successful, you need to be organized and efficient. For every recipe you make, you need to write it down. You don’t want to be eating the same recipe every week., but you may want to come back to different meals later on down the line. Saving or taking down your recipes will help you stay organized and you can also organize them based on which ones you like and dislike.

5. Not Having Sufficient Time To Plan

Meal prepping may be long, but planning can often take a lot longer. Not giving yourself enough time to plan will make the process frustrating and overwhelming. You need to plan carefully. You can have use weekend to spread out your planning, grocery shopping and meal prepping. It can help you feel that what you wish to do is achievable and sustainable.

6. Not Stocking Your Pantry

You also need to stock your pantry. You should not be dependent on shopping for your groceries every time you plan a meal. Also, having foods stocked in the pantry will benefit your meal planning and it can help make things easier. Strategically stocking your pantry with the essential ingredients that you use over and over again will make meal planning a lot easier.
