Life is full of moments of discomfort such as colds, cramps, allergies, and other diseases — the list goes on and on. However, a lot of us don't necessarily want to reach for harsh over-the-counter or prescription-based medicines right off the bat. Instead, we prefer to go with natural home remedies for aches and pains if we can.

And while a lot of us prefer the idea of opting for natural, less-invasive treatment options when possible, that doesn't mean figuring out which natural remedies to use is always easy. 

In this post, I will be sharing with you 6 natural healing hacks everyone should know about:

1. Don’t Smoke

You’ve heard it before: If you smoke, quitting is absolutely the best thing you can do for your health. Yes, it’s hard, but it’s also far from impossible. More than 1,000 Americans stop for good every day.

Tips you can follow:

- Keep trying! It often takes six or seven tries before you quit for good.

- Talk to a health-care provider for help.

- Join a program, see if your workplace or health plan may offer one.

2. Exercise Regularly

Few things are as good for you as regular physical activity. While it can be hard to find the time, it’s important to fit in at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. More is even better, but any amount is better than none.

Tips to follow:

- Choose activities you enjoy. Many things count as exercise, including walking, gardening and dancing.

- Make exercise a habit by setting aside the same time for it each day. Try going to the gym at lunchtime or taking a walk regularly after dinner.

- Stay motivated by exercising with someone.

3. Cut Back On Sweets

If you love chocolate, enjoy it in small amounts while keeping the calories in mind. Chocolate has some nutritional value, but it’s also high in sugar and fat. 

Tips to follow:

- Pass up drinks and food products with added sugar. 

- The food label may not explicitly say "added sugar," so be on the lookout for ingredients such as corn syrup, fructose, high-fructose corn syrup and molasses.

4. Stay Hydrated

By some estimates, 75 percent of people suffer from chronic dehydration. Dehydration affects health in more ways than one. It flattens energy levels and can negatively affect every process in the body, including your bone and tissue regeneration, your natural detoxification abilities and your immune system. Even the blinking of your eyes and the beating of your heart requires water.

Tips to follow:

- Avoid coffee, sodas and energy drinks, as they are not good hydrates and will cause your body to lose water. 

- Drink half your body weight in ounces of water a day. For example, if you weigh 180 pounds, drink 90 ounces of water on a daily basis.

5. Follow A Clean Diet

You may be familiar with the expression “garbage in, garbage out.” Nowhere is that truer than about the food you eat. You can exercise and sleep twice as much as anyone else, but without a clean and balanced diet, those efforts will be in vain.

Tips to follow:

- Your grocery list should consist of whole, raw foods from nature such as vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds and whole grains.

- Get in the habit of making your food. 

- Avoid the mass-produced “food widgets” that are largely found in the center of the grocery store—boxed, packaged and loaded with junk, especially sugar and refined carbohydrates.

6. Protect Yourself From The Sun

While the warm sun is indeed inviting, too much exposure to it can lead to skin cancer, including dangerous melanoma. Skin damage starts early in childhood, so it’s especially important to protect children.

Tips to follow:

- Steer clear of direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. (peak burning hours). It’s the best way to protect yourself.

- Wear hats, long-sleeve shirts, and sunscreens with SPF15 or higher.

- Don’t use sun lamps or tanning booths. Try self-tanning creams instead.
