6 Simple Habits For Helping You Become Happier

What does it take to be happy and successful in life? We all want these two things, but we also know how elusive and hard they could be to achieve.

Do we need a successful career and gorgeous partner to be eternally happy? Or maybe a new sports car? The latest smartphone? The most expensive yoga outfit? Happiness and success don't need to be fancy and complicated. If you want to live a happy and successful life, you just need to enjoy simple things. Want some help to achieve this? Incorporate these easy habits into your daily routine.

Here are 6 simple habits for helping you become happier:

1. Discover Your Unique Happiness

As with most things, there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to happiness. That means you need to get to know yourself to understand what it is that makes you feel happy and fulfilled. Reconnect with your values, your strengths, and your purpose to build a strong foundation for your happiness journey. Then, let them lead you to a life that aligns with them.  

2. Exercise Regularly

In modern life, we move our bodies less and less, and this has huge consequences for our physical and mental wellbeing. If there were a drug that provided all the benefits that exercise does, the whole world would be taking it.

It’s not only for people who are obsessed with their bodies and self-image. Exercise releases proteins and endorphins in our brain, which makes us feel happier. It also makes us more productive at work. Exercise is essential for a happy life.

3. Sleep More

Sleep is needed for restoring energy and emotional well-being. A study concludes that, among other things, sleep is essential for:

- Learning and memory - Sleep helps the brain commit new information to memory through a process called memory consolidation. In studies, people who’d slept after learning a task did better on tests later.

- Metabolism and weight - Chronic sleep deprivation may cause weight gain by affecting the way our bodies process and store carbohydrates, and by altering levels of hormones that affect our appetite.

- Mood - Sleep loss may result in irritability, impatience, inability to concentrate, and moodiness. Too little sleep can also leave you too tired to do the things you like to do.

To get more sleep, try to discipline yourself about your sleep time. Some people also find that a night session of meditation or binaural beats helps you get better sleep.

4. Live In The Present

This is where it all happens, the present moment. It’s the only place where you can experience happiness (or anything else for that matter). It’s the only place worth being. It might sound obvious, but realizing this a life-changing moment. In the present, you can think better, feel better, and act better. Whenever you enter a new place, use your five senses—sound, sight, touch, smell, and taste—to find more nowness.

5. Show Kindness

Nothing could explain the feeling that you get when you help other people. It’s a warm and fuzzy sensation that you can only get after showing kindness towards others. Make it a habit of giving, even without expecting to receive something in return. People that are kind and helpful are always happier and more successful.

6. Care For Yourself

Our body, mind, and soul are connected. Make a change in one of them, and you change the state of all three. Isn’t that nice to know? Do something every day to improve your overall state of well-being, such as preparing a good meal, exercising, or watching a good movie. And know that caring for yourself is caring for the world.


Happiness isn’t about having all the pieces in place. It isn’t about having a problem-free life or reaching a particular goal or objective. Instead, it’s about being able to enjoy where you are, no matter what. Don’t leave your happiness to chance. Choose to claim it. Live the life you deserve to live.
